How To Treat Diabetes By Juicing

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

How do you treat diabetes by juicing. This question comes up a lot because when most people thing about juicing they think it is only about juicing fruit.

Some of the best juices are made with only vegetables, so most diabetics don’t have to be stuck worrying about consuming too much sugar.

Having said that eating whole fruit and vegetables is probably the best thing a diabetic can do to improve their condition.

Monitoring your insulin levels is going to be very important during this process. Begin by juicing with vetetables only. There are great books available for recipes on juicing vegetalbes. One I can think of is “Green For Life”. Most vegetable juices begin with a green base like swiss chard, kale or dark green lettuces.

Only juice in the morning for the first week and monitor your insulin levels over the week. If they are stable you can start juicing at different times and also start getting more creative with the types of vegetables and fruit you use.

A dark green juice with lots of green vegetables should have very little effect on your insulin levels. You can begin by adding 1 fruit per juicing attempt and continue to monitor your insulin levels.

If you don’t notice much of a change then just get more creative. Go slowly and take your time. Don’t be in a hurry to juice all day long. Begin with one meal a day and just monitor your progress.

Remember to juice with the fiber of the vegetables and fruit. This will go a long way at helping you stabilize your blood sugars.

How To Clean Fruit For Juicing

How you clean your fruit for juicing can be a very important part of your juicing plan. Depending on where you get your fruit can have an impact on how clean or dirty they are.

My first choice is always to buy organic, but a lot of people whether for price or availability don’t have a choice in buying organic.

When your juicing it is really important to include the fiber part of the fruit which usually means using the whole fruit including the outer covering. This means it is really important to use clean fruit.

One of the things that I do when I buy the fruit is when I get home I immediately put all the fruit and vegetables in the sink fill it with water and put a couple cap fulls of food grade hydrogen peroxide in the water.

The hydrogen peroxide helps to wash away any bacteria and the water helps to wash away any residue.

Most natural food stores sell food grade hydrogen peroxide. It usually comes in a 30% solution.

Washing your fruit keeps them clean and maximizes the benefits of juicing

Health Benefit From Juicing Information

These days the 9 to 5 you are at work, isn’t nearly as important as the 5 to 9 you are expected to eat at home. I am referring to the recommended portions of fresh vegetables and fruits you need each day.

Only a fraction of the population reach that lofty goal. If you have kids, you know all about broccoli-battles and other skirmishes…

The solution lies in the benefit of juicing. Discover this for yourself, and you will never look back. Is it easier to down one pint of juice, than eating two large salads? Or to drink one cup of carrot juice, rather than crunching through four cups filled with diced raw carrots?

Every child goes through a stage where, having to eat certain veggies, is nothing short of torture. Don’t make healthy eating a battleground! The benefit of juicing offers an easy way out.

Children love the sweet taste of carrot juice, combined with apples, grapes or peaches. They will not even notice that mom has added a few secret ingredients in the form of cucumber, celery, leafy greens, and other unmentionables.

Add a bit of beetroot for an appealing color - not too much though, as young palates may not enjoy the strong taste.

Give the juice combination a name they can associate with, and they will be more likely to drink it. Or ask them to come up with a name for their own concoction! If you can tempt them to drink juice on a regular basis, they probably won’t need additional supplements, unless they have special health needs.

Even adults who detest certain vegetables, such as cabbage or broccoli, will be surprised by how palatable they become when juiced together with other produce. If you combine the no-no’s with carrots, apples and beetroot, for example, they won’t even be noticeable. Through the benefit of juicing, you have tricked your body into absorbing all their valuable nutrients!

To experience the advantages of juicing to the fullest, use as wide a range of produce as possible. Variety is necessary to ensure nutritional balance.

Why is juicing so beneficial? The fibres in fruits and vegetables trap enzymes, minerals, and vitamins. A substantial percentage of the goodness remains out of your body’s reach in the normal digestive processes.

When produce is processed in a juice extractor, these nutrients are released for immediate absorption. In a sense the juice becomes pre-digested food. When drinking the juice, your body can instantly access this most concentrated form of micronutrients.

The powerful cocktail of enzymes, minerals, and vitamins are available to all the cells in your body, and is quickly assimilated with virtually no effort. You will almost hear your body heaving a sigh of relief!

Just imagine how much energy your body usually has to expend to digest huge, heavy, fatty meals. Instead of the usual energy slump you experience after a meal, a glass of juice will be followed by an energy surge.

The secret to experiencing the full benefit of juicing, lies in drinking it with as little standing time as possible. Your aim is to minimize oxidation, and loss of any of the precious nutrients.

The three main culprits responsible for destroying the micronutrients in your fresh juice are heat, air, and light. If you have to store juice, try to do so in individual portions. Fill the container to the top, seal it airtight, and even go so far as to wrap the container in aluminum foil to keep light out. Refrigerate it immediately. Don’t store the juice for longer than 24 hours.

A few drops of lemon juice added to the juice, also helps to preserve it.

Much has been written about the health benefit of juicing. Not only does it improve well-being and vitality. It is anti-aging and may even prevent certain serious diseases from developing. Many existing ailments are better managed if fresh juice is introduced as part of the treatment plan. Drinking vegetable juice daily, will go a long way toward helping your body to achieve optimal performance.

If you are unwell or elderly, you may experience difficulty eating in the normal way, or your digestion may be compromised. Whatever the situation, you should be able to experiment and find suitable recipes for juices you are able to tolerate well.

If you are constantly on the run and don’t nourish yourself as you know you should, what can be easier than quickly popping a variety of veggies into your juicer, and downing an energy cocktail?

A few facts on juicing:

1. If you have any illness, if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or if you are nursing, it is always sensible and safe to consult a medical practitioner before joining the juicers.

2. You lose some of the fibre when you juice fruit and vegetables. Make sure you find other natural ways to include enough fibre in your diet. Or use a blender and juice the whole fruit including the fiber.

3. Some vegetables are more difficult to tolerate or metabolize. Start slowly and find the combinations that work for you. Wheat grass for example, has quite a strong taste, but is very beneficial. If your juicer can manage it, introduce it slowly and always in combination with other juices.

4. You may wonder if store bought juice won’t give you the same benefit. Many store bought juices contain unwanted, unhealthy ingredients. Even if you do find 100% pure juice, the nutrient value will have been depleted to a large extent.

What Is A Citrus Juicer

A citrus juicer is probably one of the most basic juicers available. It is probably the first juicer that was on the market. A citrus juicer is a kitchen tool specifically designed for removing the juice from citrus. Both hand operated and electric versions are available, with many cooks preferring one or the other, depending on how much citrus needs to be juiced. Most cooks can find a use for a citrus juicer, making it an excellent tool to have around the kitchen and a good gift as well. Most kitchen supply stores stock citrus juicers, usually in a wide range of styles.

The most simple type of citrus juicer is a citrus reamer. A citrus reamer consists of a ridged cone attached to a handle. The consumer cuts a piece of fruit in half and holds it in one hand while pressing the conical part of the reamer against it to extract the juice. As a basic, easily used kitchen tool, a citrus reamer makes a great juicer. As one can imagine, using a citrus reamer for large volumes of juice can get tiring. A citrus reamer also does not strain out pulp or seeds.

Another type of manual juicer uses a two-part design, although in some cases the parts may be molded together. One part is a conical section mounted so that it faces upwards, and the other catches the juice. To use this type of citrus juicer, the cook presses a halved citrus fruit down on the conical section while pushing it back and forth to get all the juice out. In some instances, this style of citrus juicer includes a sieve for draining pulp and seeds, and it is more practical for larger amount of fruit.

Electric citrus juicers are the preferred type for high volumes of juicing. An electric juicer uses a motor to spin the conical section inserted into the fruit, allowing the cook to simply hold the fruit against it while the machine does the work. Usually, a larger reservoir is attached to an electrical citrus juicer so that the cook can juice a large volume of fruit at once. When making orange juice or lemonade for a big group, an electric juicer is a huge time saver over hand juicers. For people who are trying to integrate juicing into their diet, an electric juicer can also be a big help.

When picking out a citrus juicer, think about how much juicing you need to do. If you just need to juice a lime or lemon now and then for cooking, a hand juicer is probably sufficient. If you do a lot of juicing, an electric juicer would obviously be a better choice, and you may want to consider the options, which range from huge industrial juicers designed for commercial use to small electric juicers designed to produce a glass of orange juice at a time. Look for a sturdy, easily cleaned citrus juicer which will be easy to care for.

Citrus juicers are designed for the orange and grapefruit. Foods rich in potassium, such as ORANGES, may help reduce the risk of stroke and can reduce blood pressure.

The white membrane under the skin (called the pith) or more correctly the albedo, contains almost as much vitamin C as the flesh of the fruit? The white stuff is also a good source of pectin- a soluable fiber that helps lower cholesterol levels. Oranges also contain vitamin C, potassium, calcium as well as the b vitamins niacin and thiamine.

Why Eat Raw Food

Because cooking takes so many nutrients and vitamins OUT of food, you automatically start feeding your body what it needs when you stop cooking food and start eating uncooked, nutrient-rich foods. A raw carrot has exponentially more nutrition than a cooked carrot.

Cooking also alters the chemistry of foods, often making them harder to digest. Why do we have so many digestive problems in this country? Because we’re putting foods into our bodies in a form that we weren’t designed to absorb. High fiber, high water content fresh produce abolishes constipation of the bowels, cells and circulatory system. Obstructions are cleared and blood flow increases to each and every cell in the body. Enhanced blood flow is significant for two reasons: as mentioned above, blood delivers nutrients and oxygen to living cells, and carries away their toxic metabolites.

Obesity is endemic in this country. The diet industry is more profitable than the oil companies. Why? Because the way we eat and prepare our food practically guarantees that we’ll overeat. Psychologists tell us that we overeat because our souls are hungry. But in reality, our bodies are hungry, even though we may feel full. When you start giving your body the nutrients it craves, overeating will cease.

Eating raw foods is a boost to your metabolism as well. It takes a little more energy to digest raw foods, but it’s a healthy process. Rather than spending energy to rid itself of toxins produced by cooking food, the body uses its energy to feed every cell, sending vitamins, fluids, enzymes and oxygen to make your body the efficient machine it was intended to be.

You’ll naturally stop overeating, because your body and brain will no longer be starving for the nutrients they need. A starving brain will trigger the thoughts that make you overeat. The brain and the rest of your body don’t need quantity; they need quality.

Raw Food and Skin Health

What’s the largest organ in your body? It’s your skin! It provides a protective covering for the other organs of the body. It changes to regulate your internal body temperature. And it’s a good indicator of overall health and well-being.

People spend thousands of dollars on skin preparations to make your skin look vibrant and glowing. They’re all topical products – products that we put on top of our skin. But if we spent just a fraction of the money we spend on these preparations on RAW FOODS, we’d begin to see an immediate change in the texture of our skin.

When you eat raw foods, you put more of the essential vitamins and amino acids your body needs into it. You’re also adding moisture – naturally. Raw foods have a much higher moisture content than cooked foods, simply because the cooking process takes out so much essential moisture.

Your skin is a mirror of what’s going on in the rest of your body. And when your organs and blood are fed the nutrition they need to function properly, that shows in your skin. Get your vitamins and moisture from foods like apples and carrots. When you do, then phrases like “inner beauty” and “inner glow” will be applied to YOU. Your skin is what’s presented to the rest of the world and healthy, glowing skin makes the best first impression.

When you start adding raw foods to your diet, things will just naturally fall into place. You’ll feel better. You’ll look better. People will react to you more positively. You’ll have so much more energy for your work, your friends, and your family. And this kind of energy is a self-perpetuating thing. You don’t need self-help books and expensive moisturizers and plastic surgery. When your body and skin are getting their essential nutrition with raw, uncooked foods, you’ll look and feel your best, NATURALLY!

Skin tone drinking water, coconut milk, etc.

The best way to have healthy, glowing skin is to start from the inside out. Eliminating caffeine in the form of coffee and soda is one way to start. Caffeine dehydrates the body and skin. And lack of moisture is a sure way to create lines and wrinkles. It’s also a diuretic, causing increased urine output, again depleting your body and skin of the moisture it needs. We try to combat this with moisturizers, but the better way is to put the moisture INTO your body, not on it.

Drinking pure water, unprocessed fruit juices or coconut milk will give your body and skin the hydration it needs. The colors in fruit juices are the colors of the earth and these colors will reflect themselves in warm and healthy skin tones.

The overall effects of caffeine on your body will manifest themselves in your skin. Heavy caffeine drinkers can experience osteoporosis, headaches, depression, sleeplessness. These can all be reflected in your skin.

When you replace colas, coffee and teas made with boiling water with water, fruit juices “sun tea” and coconut milk, you’ll soon start to feel better and sleep better. Your skin will reflect the good health of all the organs and cells of your body, once you’ve kicked the caffeine habit.
Another reason for drinking pure water, juices and “sun tea” is that when you boil water, you’re releasing oxygen from it. When the body rids itself of toxins, it passes through the skin which is the largest elimination organ. Raw food increases your detoxification rate. Drinking water helps the body rid itself of toxins. Seaweed is high in vitamins and minerals beneficial to the skin and also helps rid the body of toxins.
To achieve a healthy complexion, drink plenty of water and eat plenty of raw food. What goes into your body is reflective in your overall appearance.
